BROEN OVER GJØRME

A hybrid between concert, performance and installation, where the whole
space is played as one polyphonic audiovisual instrument.

Bridge Over Mud had its world premiere in the program of Ultima – Contemporary Music Festival in Oslo, September 2014. The event took place at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Oslo. The performance has been touring internationally since 2014.

Bridge Over Mud is co-produced with Black Box Teater, BIT Teatergarasjen, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter and Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival

Among a great diversity of material to surface this work there are some strong imprints from our last stay in Kolkata, India in December 2011, where we presented the work And All the Questionmarks Started to Sing in the ruins of the former Reserve Bank of India (The Currency Building) in the centre of Kolkata city. See more about this project at here.
Collected material from Kolkata meets other material and ideas over time and has now resulted in a complex orchestral work slowly falling through the bottomless abyss of minute details.

Broen over Gjørme is a balancing act over a treacherous landscape created by the interplay of many different media. We try to “play the whole room” like one big instrument. In this room everything is connected and can be played on from any thinkable angle. During the long working process in our studio in Oslo we have, step bay step, entered a total audiovisual laboratorium, a state of deep integration between musicians and performers, kinetic sculptures, video, sound, robotics, etc.

Broen over Gjørme can be seen both as an exhibition, as a concert, as a performance or as a diversity of artists handling an abstract, electromechanical object-theatre.There are no established notions of genre that can describe a work like this. In this landscape we can only walk as far as the shoes of reason will take us….then we jump…

“…the great span between the deafening noise and the fragile and unsteady, wavery space this work creates seems to mirror the many extremes in the human existence. It evokes a quote from the film Stalker:
“weakness is something fantastic, strength is nothing”.
